Hermantown Elementary students recently learned about the many different types of scientists and careers in science and had visitors from The College of St. Scholastica and Northern Lakes Foods.
Students learned about conducting electricity and creating a circuit by joining hands. The light tube would light up when the circuit was complete and would turn off when someone broke the circuit.
They also learned about how acids and bases affect chemical reactions, using common household items like baking soda, and a solution made from cabbage.
Northern Lakes Foods was a hit! The first statement by Mr. Olin was "We are the company that brings all the food to the school.” The kids' minds were absolutely blown and thought he was famous for being a part of that company. The kids were also interested to learn that Northern Lakes Foods delivers to Wendy’s and Buffalo Wild Wings.
Afterwards, students were allowed to tour the delivery truck, honk the horn and eat a snack, complements of Northern Lakes Foods.
Hermantown third and fourth graders are set to learn from 36 local working professionals at this year's STEMpathy Career Fair! The event also includes live demonstrations from HS/MS Lego Robotics Teams & the HS Hermantown Robotics team. The event will take place on Thursday, November 16th from 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the High School Gym.
