SCOUTING THE HAWKS

► The defending Class A state champion Hawks defeated Rock Ridge 3-1 in the Section 7A final at Amsoil Arena in Duluth, as three different players scored goals and junior goaltender Dane Callaway stopped 23 of 24 shots.

► Senior forward Aaron Evjen, who scored his team's opening goal against the Wolverines, also had two goals in a 3-2 semifinal victory over Hibbing/Chisholm.

► Junior forward Dallas Vieau, a Penn State commit, leads all Hawks scorers with 21 goals and 48 points.

► Senior defenseman George Peterson has 41 points, followed by senior forwards Wyatt Carlson (37 points, including 20 goals) and Kade Kohanski (31, 15).

► Sophomore power forward River Freeman has 12 goals and 24 points, including a pair of goals and five points in three section games.

► Brothers Joshua and Matthew Kauppinen, both power forwards, have combined for 21 goals and 46 points.

► Juniors William Esterbrooks (22 points, 6 goals), Weston Bohlman (15, 4) and Drew Nelson (9, 2) help to anchor the Hawks’ deep defensive corp.

► The Hawks have won 13 straight, including consecutive signature home wins against Benilde-St. Margaret’s 7-2, Chaska 3-1 and Grand Rapids 4-1.

► Hermantown defeated Class A state tournament qualifiers Mahtomedi 6-3, Orono 2-1 and St. Cloud Cathedral 4-1 and lost at top-seeded Warroad 3-1 at Gardens Arena during the regular season.

► The Hawks started the season 2-0, defeating Class AA state qualifiers Cretin-Derham Hall 6-3 and Hill-Murray 3-1 enroute to the Champions Cup title in Eden Prairie. Hermantown also defeated Moorhead 2-0, another 2023 2A state tourney team.
