Boys Tennis – host Superior, 4:15 p.m. The Hawks (5-1) are led by No. 1 singles phenom Aaron Evjen, a senior who also was a star forward on the Hermantown hockey team last season. “Evjen, an exceptional leader, holds many of our school records,” Hawks coach Jessica Worden said before a recent match against Denfeld. “Everyone is having fun and we’re off to a good start,” said Evjen, a 4.0 student (on a 4.0 scale) who plans to attend the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota starting in the fall. “My teammates have been awesome, highly competitive, and we push each other to be our best.”
Baseball – at Rock Ridge, 4:30 p.m. The Hawks (6-0) pounded Cloquet 10-0 Friday at Mettner Field in the Wood City, following a 10-4 win over the Jacks on Apr. 27 at Mettner. Hermantown has 12 regular season games remaining, including four games in each of the next two weeks. Hawks hitting stars are River Freeman, Caden Olson, Dawson Rannow and Wyatt Carlson, among others, and ace pitchers include Rannow, Cruz Runyan and Wylee Arro.
Softball – at Rock Ridge, 4:30 p.m. The Hawks (3-3) hope to snap a two-game losing streak, including a 1-0 loss at North Branch Friday and a 6-5 loss against Grantsburg at Andover Saturday. Hermantown features dominating senior pitcher Natalie Vitek, senior third baseman Jadyn Lind, junior outfielder Bailee Edwards and elite sophomore catcher Mikayla Sweeney.
