With a team score of 386, the Hermantown/Proctor Girls Nordic Ski Team claimed the MSHSL Section 7 title Wednesday afternoon at Giants Ridge Golf and Ski Resort to advance to the MSHSL State Nordic Skiing Championship. The Rail Hawks edged out second-place Duluth East by one point, as the Greyhounds finished the event with 385 team points.
The student-athletes will be representing both Hermantown and Proctor High Schools as they hit the trails at Giant Ridge Golf and Ski Resort once again February 12-13 for the state tournament.
Hermantown/Proctor's Della Bettendorf was the Section 7 individual champion in the pursuit race with a time of 32:58 and in the classic race with a time of 16:26.0. Also in pursuit, Rachel Bettendorf finished in fourth place for the Rail Hawks, followed by Lizzy Harnell in 11th, Ferrah LaLone in 16th and Paisley Kleiman in 27th. In classic, Rachel Bettendorf crossed in fifth place, Harnell in 11th, LaLone in 21st and Kleiman in 27th.
Campbell Amundson and Nene Sclisizzo were champions of the sprint relay with a time of 16:31.
