Hermantown Hockey

Hermantown hockey coach Patrick Andrews is looking for a strong, three-period effort from his team on Tuesday night at Duluth Marshall.

Class 1A top-ranked Hermantown battled back from a two-goal deficit in the third period and salvaged a 3-3 overtime tie against Centennial in a nonconference high school boys hockey game Saturday afternoon at Centennial Sports Arena.

George Peterson and Joshua Kauppinen scored third-period goals for the Hawks, who out-shot their opponents 45-20 including 9-3 in OT. Garron Opsahl had 17 saves for Hermantown.

Duluth Marshall is 1-5.

"We're still looking to string together three strong periods," said Andrews. "I was really happy with our compete and willingness to come back and not give up against Centennial, but, quite honestly, we didn't have a very good second period. We totally out-played Centennial in OT, which was a strong positive. But we can't expect to win games by playing two periods of good hockey."

The Hawks will also visit Rosemount (2-3) on Friday night.

"Two good games upcoming for us," said Andrews. "Marshall is a good conference game -- our first game in the area -- and Rosemount, which recently took Minnetonka into overtime, has a strong team. They also play a heavy and physical game, and make it hard to get to the net. Centennial also was physical against us, especially in the third period when we also played with physicality and speed. We'll have to play that same way against Rosemount."

And for all three periods.
